Artistry with gourds is a celebration of imagination, spirituality and history. Each gourd in it’s natural state is a unique creation – with it’s own story to tell. Before I begin my own creative process on a gourd, I need to spend some time with it and try to discern what the gourd itself has to say. This is probably the most challenging aspect of the entire artistic process, and the reason I find gourding to be so satisfying. I enjoy the physicality of washing and cleaning the gourds, and the playfulness of experimenting with color and technique. I enjoy working with woodburning and carving tools. I love the experiential nature of the work. Each finished art piece is a unique & tangible expression of this entire creative and physical process.
